On Monday mornings, business leaders and management can almost hear the groans of employees as they enter the building. People are tired and sad the weekend is over—you might be one of them! It can be a very non-productive day, but it doesn’t have to be.
Here are five tips for avoiding a case of the Mondays, and making them better for employees and your business.
Develop the Right Attitude. A positive attitude will attract positive things to your personal life, and will help you create rapport and solid relationships for your business. As a leader, if you change your attitude, your employees will follow. So dream a lot, have passion, smile and keep life simple.
Create a Plan. Yogi Berra, the famous baseball player and one of the most quoted figures in sports, famously said, “If you don’t know where you’re going, chances are you will end up somewhere else.” Analyze and develop goals in the main areas of your life. Set them low enough to be realistic but high enough to be challenging.
Explore Your Potential. List your achievements in the different areas of your life: family, mental, social, financial, physical and ethical. Ask yourself the following questions for each area:
Define Your Purpose. Purpose is the core of all action. Living without a pre-defined purpose is like traveling 10,000 miles without a road map. Write a list of your five most important values (balance, family, fitness, integrity, money, power, stability, wealth, wisdom, accountability, etc). Then write a vision for your life using at least three of your most important values.
Take action. There’s an old story that illustrates this idea. Once, there were two farmers who prayed everyday for rain. One of them spent most of his time going to a house of worship to pray, while the other decided to pray in the morning and work the rest of the day preparing the land for the rain to come. God sent rain to only one of them—the farmer who prepared the land received the rain. The question is: which of the two farmers are you?
Of course, these personal and professional tactics can do much more than make Mondays bearable. They can improve every single day of your life! So embrace them and watch the workday blues fade away.
